Weather Spotters
The Whitley County Emergency Management Agency is comprised of various specialized teams responsible for providing various services and programs to ensure the responsiveness of our county.
Whitley County is a Storm Ready Community and require a yearly weather spotters training for all first responders and the general public. This training covers the operations during severe weather periods and how weather spotters communicate what they are spotting to the Whitley County Emergency Operations Center and to the National Weather Service.
This communications allows the National Weather Service to have actual event reporting from the counties. Thereby changing the status of the watches and warning as need be. This information gathering also helps to notify the public when tornadoes have been sighted through sounding the outdoor warning sirens.
